On Tuesday, 16 September, the i4EUFITMOS consortium gathered online for its fourth project meeting, bringing together partners from across Europe to discuss the next important steps. The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress, exchange ideas and align priorities for the months ahead.

The central focus was the development of the application, with particular attention to the preparation of the prototype, which is scheduled for completion by January 2026. During the session, AUTH presented detailed use cases of the app, which encouraged an engaging discussion on several key aspects: data entry for PE teachers, the possibility of child access and related privacy concerns, the creation of a dedicated researcher portal, and the integration of a chatbot. These elements are crucial to ensure the app is user-friendly, inclusive, and adaptable to different stakeholders.

To support further progress, it was agreed that AUTH will prepare additional detailed use cases, which will be presented at the next meeting in October. These will play a central role in guiding the design and development of the prototype.

Looking ahead, partners also discussed the timeline for upcoming project activities, including the next in-person Transnational Project Meeting (TPM). This meeting is planned for the first half of 2026 in Berlin and will be hosted by DSLV, offering a valuable opportunity for the consortium to meet face-to-face, strengthen collaboration, and set the course for the project’s next phas

We are very happy to announce that the EU Delegation to Albania has featured the Albanian Sports Science Association (ASSA) in a special article highlighting innovative approaches to sport, fitness, and health education. This recognition underlines the growing impact of ASSA’s work on improving the health and well-being of children in Albania and beyond.

Driving innovation in sport and health

With the support of the European Union, ASSA has become a leading organisation in integrating sport, fitness, education, and artificial intelligence to promote healthier lifestyles among children and youth. Through research-driven initiatives and practical programmes, ASSA addresses key challenges in children’s physical development, particularly in the context of rising inactivity and increasing rates of overweight and obesity.

In Albania, recent data shows that around 14% of schoolchildren are overweight and 7–8% are affected by obesity. These figures reflect a pressing need for early interventions and sustainable systems that encourage regular physical activity, support inclusive participation, and equip educators and decision-makers with evidence-based tools.

Featured projects

USSI Project
Inclusive sport modules that offer adapted activities such as judo for children with disabilities, helping them develop coordination, confidence, and social inclusion.

EUFITMOS
A large-scale school-based fitness monitoring system that establishes European standards for assessing and improving children’s health and wellness across Albania.

i4EUFITMOS
Next-generation digital tools powered by artificial intelligence, designed to provide teachers, parents, and policymakers with actionable insights to support children’s physical activity and development.

Building a healthier future

These projects represent a major step towards creating a sustainable, data-informed, and inclusive approach to sport and health education. They also demonstrate how international collaboration and EU support can drive meaningful change and improve the quality of life for future generations.

ASSA remains committed to expanding these initiatives, fostering cross-sector cooperation, and sharing its expertise across Europe to build a healthier and more active future for children.

The Portuguese national workshop was held on May 14th, 2025, at the Faculty of Human Kinetics, University of Lisbon. The event was aimed at both current and future Physical Education teachers, recognizing their key role in fitness assessment in schools.

The programme was divided into three main parts: an introduction to the i4EUFITMOS project, a presentation of the national results from the stakeholder survey, and a group discussion session dedicated to exploring possible enhancements to the EUFITMOS digital platform.

The group discussion workshop echoed the key findings of the stakeholder survey, reinforcing the need for flexible data entry methods, user-friendly visualizations, and practical reporting tools. Participants emphasized the importance of mobile and offline capabilities, as well as customizable analytics features. Overall, their input validated the platform development priorities already identified through the survey.
